Perched on a hill over looking the La Jolla Cove and Pacific Ocean Trattoria Acqua welcomes it’s guests with the ambiance of the Italian Mediterranean. Voted one of San Diego’s most popular restaurants in the 1999 Zagat survey and winner of Gourmet Magazines “America’s Top Table” Award. Winner of “Best Italian Restaurant” Awards and Reviews from both the San Diego Restaurant Association and the San Diego Home/Garden Magazine readers pole. The menu was originally inspired by former Chef/Proprietor Joseph Savino who departed in December of 1999 to move back to New York and open his own restaurant in Manhattan. The “torch has been passed” to Executive Chef Josh Thomsen, formerly of The Hotel Bel-Air in Los Angeles and The French Laundry in Napa Valley who continues the award wining tradition of the restaurant. Proprietor’s Victoria and Michael McGeath have tried to recreate the casual seaside restaurants they fell in love with during their travels in Italy. White washed woods, tiled floors, tromp l’eoil art, arched doorways and canopied ceilings give Trattoria Acqua a warm yet sophisticated feeling. The moderate priced menu features an extensive selection of pastas, made on premises daily, grilled fresh fish, fowl and meats, pizzas and salads. Menus change with the seasons. The menu is complimented by a 500 selection wine list that has won the Wine Spectator Award of Excellence the past four years. The list offers an extensive list of California, Italian and French wines with many older vintages at reasonable prices.
There is validated underground parking below the restaurant and valet parking at 1250 Prospect street.
