Acqua
While Trattoria Acqua has always been known for having a fair and affordable wine list, we have decided to reduce our wine pricing to be even more affordable. Our list now offers wine pricing at “Retail plus $10.00” for a regular 750ml bottle. In effect you are simply paying $10.00 corkage for wines you would go out and purchase at your local markets and wine shops. We realize, more than ever, that in this economy everybody needs a break right now. It is our hope that by giving you a “break” on wine pricing it will make your day a little bit better!
Should you wish to purchase a bottle of wine to take home, we can offer you that bottle for $10.00 less than the listed price.

OUR WINE LIST IS A CONSTANTLY CHANGING LIST, SOMETIMES
TWICE A WEEK. THE WINES LISTED BELOW ARE JUST AN
“EXAMPLE” OF THE TYPES OF WINES AND PRICES WE HAVE ON
OUR LIST.

RED WINE ANGELO GAJA’S CA’MARCANDA “PROMIS”, 2007

Angelo Gaja is arguably the #1 wine-maker in all of Italy and one of the best in the world. His Nebbiolo based wines from the tiny town of Barbaresco normal sell for many hundreds of dollars, some in the thousands! His Super Tuscan wines from the Ca’Marcanda estate are also some of the best wines coming out of Italy. Promis, from the Latin abbreviation, promissio, meaning promise truly lives up to its name. The grapes are grown in the terre brune (rich, dark soils) of the Ca'Marcanda vineyard. The soil consists primarily of loam and clay. The climate-- hot summer days, freshened by brisk sea air and cool nights--is ideal for the grapes grown here. The wine is a blend of 55% Merlot, 35% Syrah and 10% Sangiovese An elegant wine with great balance of ripe fresh fruit and silky tannins. The Wine Spectator gave the wine a 90 point rating and said: “Dark in color. Very focused and precise on the nose, with a full body, wonderfully silky tannins and a fruity, bright aftertaste. Lively and delicious already. The best Promis ever!” Wonderful with roasted and grilled beef, lamb, quail, chicken and pasta withflavorful cheeses. Normally $95.00 – we are offering it at just $59.00.

RED WINE DEEP SEA “CENTRAL COAST “ RED 2008

A spectacular new family owned winery in the Arroyo Grande Valley area of California’s central coast. The 2008 Deep Sea Red is a complex Rhone-style blend of 74% Syrah, 14% Petite Sirah, 6% Lagrein, 3% Merlot, 3% Mourvédre. Special care was given toward the balance of these so differently profiled varieties. The 2008 Deep Sea Red shows incredibly dark purple hues reminiscent of pomegranate. The nose jumps at you with intense notes of dark red fruits including blackberry, plum, fresh bread, red meats, followed with hints of rose petal, thyme/oregano and lavender. The entry shows both its very nice acidity and youthful yet soft, sweet tannins. This wine unfolds into jam and cherry cola, supplemented with very nice oak integration.. Well balanced and easy to drink given its fine-grained tannins. If you enjoy a great Rhone style wine like a Chateauneuf-du-Pape you will love this wine. Have it with our Mongolian Pork Chop or Ribeye Steak.! Bottle $29.00

RUBIZZO, ROCCE DELLE MACIE, 2007 TUSCANY

Rocca delle Macìe is a young and dynamic winery which in a little over 30 years it has forged a reputation throughout the wine world as one of Chianti's most highly regarded estates. It was back in 1973 that Italo Zingarelli at last realized his lifelong dream of purchasing the estate "Le Macìe" --about 85 hectares of land of which just two planted with vines-- and transforming it into a winery at the very heart of the Chianti Classico zone. The company estate now extends to more than 600 hectares with, in total, more than 200 used as vineyards and 80 as olive groves, subdivided across the company's six estates: Le Macìe, Sant'Alfonso, Fizzano e le Tavolelle in the Chianti Classico zone, in addition to the recently purchased Campomaccione and Casamaria in the Morellino di Scansano zone. Rubizzo is mainly Sangiovese with small percentage of Merlot. It has a brilliant ruby red color._On the nose: intense sensations of ripe red fruit with a palate that is fresh and smooth. it is a full bodied wine that matches up well with quail, roasted chicken, steaks and lamb. Bottle $23.00

RED WINE ALBINO ARMANI “FOJA TONDA” CASETTA, 2005

The Casetta variety, called “Foja Tonda” in dialect, is a grape variety which is indigenous of Vallagarina Valley in North-eastern Italy. It has been cultivated since antiquity in the area of Dolce, Ala and Avio north of the town of Verona. After having been abandoned, since the market favored other more prolific grape varieties, Foja Tonda was destined to extinction, until Albino Armani rediscovered it. In 2002 it was reinserted among the varieties admitted for cultivation and at present there are only about 30 acres remaining. These old grapevines, sometimes with their original roots, seem to tell the story of the age-old passion for wine shared by the inhabitants of this valley for thousands of years. The Albino Armani family has been growing grapes and making wine since 1607 with the present winery located in the town of Dolce’ since 1962. Wine & Spirits Magazine gave this wine a 90 Point rating and said: “With its violet aromas, flavors of sweet plum and peppery tannis, this indigenous variety recalls cool-climate syrah. The gentle texture and bright acidity suggest pouring it with savory lamb.” Bottle $31.00

RED WINE PLANETA “LA SEGRETA” ROSSO, 2007 SICILY

Planeta is currently thought by most wine critics to be one of the finest wineries in all of Italy. They have five estates in Sicily, each with it’s own wine making facility to insure the grapes get from vineyard to winery for quick fermentation to preserve the fresh lively flavors. This particular wine comes from the Dispensa area in the town of Menfi located along the southwestern coast of Sicily. Robert Parker says of this wine “The 2007 La Segreta Rosso is 50% Nero d’Avola, 25% Merlot, 20 % Syrah and 5% Cabernet Franc. Medium in body, this fresh, clean vinous red reveals nice plumpness and length in a generous, soft style”. Food and Wine Magazine picks this as one of their top Italian wines for value. Bottle $32.00

Trattoria Acqua

Trattoria Acqua’s Corkage Policy

We have a floating corkage fee based on the wine you brought in with you.

  1. If you bring in a wine with the vintage date from this year, you probably made it in some home wine-maker’s class, or it is too young to drink and you shouldn’t have brought it to us – corkage is $20.00

  2. If you bring a bottle of French wine in, you are either too intelligent to be dining here or a wine snob. Corkage is the alcoholic content of the wine, times the square root of pi, divided by two, rounded off to the nearest dollar.

  3. If you bring in a very old bottle of Italian white wine (older than ten years old) you should know better, we feel sorry for your guests, no corkage for your guests, but you must pay $20.00 for a glass to use.

  4. If you bring in a very old bottle of a great California wine (must have a minimum Wine Spectator rating of 93 or be something the owner finds interesting), we will flip a coin for corkage, Heads we win, tails you lose. $20.00 corkage.

  5. If you bring in a very special bottle of Italian red wine, we know you are a very savvy wine connoisseur and undoubtedly very well off, so whatever we charge for corkage will be a trivial matter to you. Trivial to us is $20.00

  6. If you bring in a sparkling wine, well now we are talking about something special. It is $20.00 for Italian or Domestic sparkling, $35.00 for French ( see Item #2)

  7. If you bring in a bottle with the “Costco” bar code still on it, corkage is the total of the numbers on the bar code.

  8. If you bring in “Two Buck Chuck” from Trader Joe’s, you should be severely reprimanded by your date. Corkage is the re tail price of the wine times ten.

  9. Not withstanding anything written above, guests will pay just $20.00 in corkage per 750ml bottle, double that for magnums etc. For each bottle of wine you purchase from us, we will “comp” a corkage charge for you! Buy a magnum, get two corkages, etc, etc.

  10. NO wine may be brought in for banquets.

Returning Wine

  1. If you buy a bottle of wine and it is bad, we will take it back. Of course we will have the final decision since the owner has read “Wine for Dummies” at least twice and is THE authority now. (At least the crew allows him to think so!)

  2. If you buy a bottle of wine and you do not like it, well really now, don’t you think you should pay for it and next time you will know not to order it.

"Wine is one of the most civilized things in the world and one of the most natural things of the world that has been brought to the greatest perfection, and it offers a greater range for enjoyment and appreciation than, possibly, any other purely sensory thing."
- Ernest Hemingway

There are many sparkling wines, but only one Champagne. Because of the unique climate and soil conditions in this area, these sparkling wines approach an ethereal elegance not achieved in other parts of the world. A blend of three grapes; Pinot Noir, Pinot Meunier and Chardonnay. Presently holds the dominant position as California’s best dry white wine. It ranges in fruit flavors of apple, pear, and pineapple to mildly tropical. The wine can be buttery, toasty, oaky , spicy and even have flavors of butterscotch. The fun of California Chardonnay is in exploring the different styles and matching them up with your favorite foods.

Like the great Burgundies of France, among the finest Pinot Noirs in the world come from California and Oregon. Generally rich, lush and complex with a wide range of flavors, these wines match up with many foods and are probably the best of the red wines to go with seafood, especially salmon.

Most of the world considers Cabernet Sauvignon to be the king of the red wine grapes. Deeply fruity and intense wines which offer complex flavors of black currants and cherries. Most have some other grape varieties like Merlot or Cabernet Franc blended in to give additional structure and complexity. Richer food dishes match best with these wines.

Becoming one of America’s most favored red wines because of its youthful approachability. First used in California as a blending wine to give Cabernet a softer, rounder and more complex flavor, it now stands on it’s own for the same reasons. Merlot is generally medium to deep red in color, openly fruity aromas and flavors with currant and cherry-ish notes. Cloaked in mystery for its130 year history in California, little is known of it’s true origin. One possibility is the Primitivo grape from Southern Italy. The wine is having a great resurgence of popularity amongst people who like hearty, robust wines of great character. Lively and vigorous, it requires foods to match.

These are Proprietary Wines made by a particular winery that are usually blends of different grape varieties. The most notable grapes being used are Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot or Syrah.

Amarone, the most prized of all of the Veronese wines.A blend of Corvina, Rondinella and Molinara grapes. The grapes are semi-dried to increase the richness and complexity. Dark ruby – purple in color, combines raw power with softness. Rich and concentrated flavors.

These are California’s answer to Bordeaux and Tuscany, where many of the greatest red wines are blends of several grape varieties. This offers more complexity and character and creates a wine that goes well with a larger range of food choices.

The principal grape in all the red wines of Tuscany is the Sangiovese and its clone, the Brunello. Capable of many levels of flavor like the Bordeaux wines of France. Our “Riserva’s” and Super Tuscan’s are known for their richness and elegance. The Brunellos are mostly bigger and more powerfully structured.

Barolo and Barbaresco are two wines both made from the Nebbiolo grape. Often referred to in Italy as the “King of Wines and the Wine of Kings”. The two small villages of Barolo and Barbaresco produce wines that are robust and intensely concentrated. Barolo tend to be bigger and fuller than Barbaresco which tend to show more finesse and mature more quickly.

Wine has a threefold vocation and is the vector of a triple communion.

Communion first of all with Mother earth…from which it receives both it’s soul and body, communion secondly with ourselves.

It is Wine that gently warms, magnifies and opens up the elements
of our personality…and which provides us with an insight to the most encouraging perspectives.

Wine is the teacher of taste, the liberator of the soul and the enlightener of intelligence. And thirdly, wine is the symbol and means of social communion, the guests at the table are on the same level and the glass that goes round, fills us with tolerance, understanding and friendship towards our neighbours.
